Major facelift for Underwater World
25 Sep 2012
On Friday September 21st Underwater World unveiled a $3.5 million upgrade to this renowned Sunshine Coast attraction at Mooloolabas' Wharf complex. Guests from all parts of the region enjoyed an informative evening complemented by some wonderful Underwater World hospitality.
Local business operators were thrilled to learn that the new owners, Merlin Entertainments Group, are committed to further upgrades of both Underwater World and the Wharf complex. This investment represents a huge vote of confidence in the future of tourism on the Sunshine Coast and provides one more great reason to visit this region!!
The new 2.5 million litre ocean tank is divided into 4 themed zones allowing for diversity of habitat so animals can be displayed in their natural environment. While strolling through the 80 metre tunnel, visitors will see Shark Shipwreck, Coral Cove, Bay of Rays and Turtle Temple.
Turtle Temple will house rescued turtles as they are prepared for release back into the wild.
Most of the species of sharks and fish now housed in the new ocean tank actually live in Sunshine Coast waters.
Visitors to Underwater World can now explore 11 zones in all, housing more than 150 species of aquatic animals.
For a real thrill you can jump into the tank and get a "sharks' eye view" of the tunnel!! - no previous scuba experience is necessary.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.underwaterworld.com.au or phone 07 5458 6226.
